Yeah, okay. Obama legalized human consumption of horse meat. Again. Because it was legal in the past. Not sure what or who made it illegal, but that's beside the point. And people are getting their panties in a twist over it. Instead of being upset that Obama legalized something he promised to ban in his campaign, people are going nuts over the legalization of horse meat consumption.
What is the big deal? Honestly? It's a source of food, just like any other domestic farm animal that we eat constantly. It's no different than cows, goats, lambs/sheep, chickens, ducks, etc.
Before you go into the issue of morality or ethics, or even that it's considered a pet, consider that in Asia, dogs are a common food; in the United States, pigs are considered an exotic pet; for Pete's sake, people eat rabbit meat and this country doesn't give two shits. I could never eat a rabbit because it's so damn cute and FLAAAAFFY!
But to say that it's "wrong" to consume a horse just because it's different from what you're used to, because it's not what you consider "normal", is just hypocritical as fuck. If you're going to say that eating a horse is wrong, then don't you dare say that eating other animals is right. An animal is an animal, no matter what species. If you eat meat, don't bother saying that it's inhumane or wrong to eat a horse. If you don't eat meat because of animal rights, then you're good. I have no problems with vegetarians or vegans being against it, because that is their lifestyle. But if you're going to put up a fuss about horse meat, take a look in your fridge and toss out those sausages, that bacon, the chicken breasts, the ground turkey or beef. Meat is meat.
Just because something is not part of your "norm" does not make it abhorrent or wrong as a whole. I think pigs as pets are adorable as shit, but am I going to cut bacon out of my diet? HECK NO TECHNO!
Mmmmmmmmmm bacon. <3
